2014 will be a big year for gaming. With the next generation XBOX One and PS4 newly on the market, new releases are going to be flashier than ever and garner a lot of attention from the media. With every game that’s released, we’re going to be seeing an increase in the level of technology due to the higher capabilities of the next gen systems. It’s also going to be a big year for PC gamers. Let’s take a closer look at what’s in store for 2014.
With the level of technology getting higher and higher, con news is going to start off with a bang in 2014 and set the bar high as the year continues. Sony Entertainment and Microsoft are both likely to announce a full set of upcoming games that take advantage of the tech and bridges more gaps that feature the cross-media capabilities of both systems. We’ll see games announced that feature full multiplayer capabilities and we’ll see more games that are available on both console systems and PC systems.
Games like Titanfall, Alien: Isolation, The Crew, Destiny, Metal Gear Solid V, Dark Souls II, The Elder Scrolls Online, Dragon Age: Inquisition, The Division and Thief are going to be hard-hitters on the release shelves and at this year’s gaming conventions. Games that are releasing towards the end of the year will especially receive a ton of buzz.
Development will continue for the XBOX 360 and PS3 this year, as well as for the Wii U, of course. There are also many other companies with newer and exciting projects, like Mad Catz for example, with the new M.O.J.O. micro-console. We’ll also see new games that generate some buzz during conventions, but for the most part the next gen systems will attract the most attention. Nintendo will likely announce a new system, system accessory or series of cross-multimedia games that will try and compete with the XBOX One and PS4. Mario Kart 8, Bayonetta 2, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and Super Smash Bros U will be some big games for the Wii U.
2014 is going to be a large year for PC games and MMORPGs in particular. More games are coming out for both next gen console systems and the PC which means that PC gamers who love investing in the latest hardware will be able to enjoy some particularly awesome eye candy this year. Check out the PS4/XBOX One list above– most are available for PC as well.
The notable PC news at cons this year will be largely centered around two big MMORPGs that will be releasing this year: WildStar and The Elder Scrolls Online. Blizzard will shake things up with World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor, Heartstone, Heroes of the Storm and they might even talk about their Titan project this year. Some other notable PC-only games include Broken Age, Game of Thrones, The Sims 4, The Repopulation and maybe even EverQuest Next and Star Citizen.
In 2014, most newly announced games in development will likely be available cross-platform as that’s where the technology is headed. This is a good thing, as it allows gamers of all types of play with their friends no matter what system they enjoy playing on. It’s going to be a great year for gaming. 2014 promises a solid array of new games and exciting gaming news to look forward to.
