There is something that I would like to talk to all of you about before the night is out. Not sure if any of you know this, but I am a big standup comedy fan. My brother recently turned my attention towards a comic named Louis C.K., and he is absolutely hilarious. After watching a few of the guys specials, I decided to check out his series on FX entitled Louie, and to be honest, it is easily becoming one of my favorite programs on TV.
The premise is simple, Louis C.K. plays a fictional version of himself, a 40 something stand up comedian living in New York with two daughters. Each episode focuses on just how bad life can be for a person like this in terms of dating, being a father, having a successful career, and so on. Sometimes the results are funny, or serious, or just downright weird. Seriously, trying to pinpoint exactly what is going on here is a hard thing to do. The idea works though, because it leaves interpretation up to the audience.
What I enjoy the most about the series is how relentless it is about just about every controversial topic known to man. Whether it’s masturbation, suicide, or even racism, they tackle it head on, with funny, or sometimes serious results. Some of my favorite moments include when one of Louie’s daughters puts a baby duckling in his suitcase before leaving for a show overseas. Another one involved a meeting with Joan Rivers, where our friend received an important life lesson about being in the comedy business. By far my most favorite episode was when he went toe to toe with a girl who is against masturbation, the end result speaks for itself.
If you are looking for some quality entertainment that’s a little off the beaten path, then Louie is right up your alley. Season four is scheduled to premiere in 2014 on FX.
Here is a trailer that I found for the show, Enjoy!
