Monday Savings For The Everyday Gamer: Volume 11

DCC2 TQ

Welcome to another installment of Monday Savings For The Everyday Gamer. If you are unsure about what’s going on here, please refer to our previous article for more information. Today we are going to take a look at a very fun competitive platforming experience that won’t put a dent into your wallet whatsoever. Let’s move to find out exactly what I’m talking about, shall we?

The eleventh title in our collection is a free XBLA game that goes by the name of Doritos Crash Course 2. Basically you run from one end of a level to another as fast as possible, while trying to avoid a number of different obstacles along the way to earn a gold, silver, or bronze ranking at the finish line. There are four different worlds to play through, and range from locations like the amazon jungle to a snowy mountain range. Sounds like a simple setup right? Well, it is for the most part, but there are few moments here and there that keep things interesting and exciting throughout the entire experience.

As usual, let’s get the bad stuff out of the way first. One major problem I had here is the fact that the game would just completely freeze up for no reason at all, and forced me to restart my system in order to continue playing. The other issue I had was connecting to their online servers to post leaderboards, play online, etc. Almost none of these worked on a consistent basis, and would almost always boot me out to the main menu to try to make them work over and over again. Hopefully these issues will be worked out in future updates, but for now, sticking to the single player adventure is the way to go.

Now on to the good stuff. First, the gameplay is extremely fun, challenging, and rewarding. Controls are straightforward for the most part, requiring  you to do nothing more than use the joystick to move, and one button to jump, that’s it. The visual style is simple, yet amusing, and the animations are goofy and over the top, making them extremely fun to watch. Last, but certainly not least, the game is free, and there’s nothing wrong with that at all.

If you are looking for an enjoyable time trial like platformer on the cheap, it doesn’t get any better than Doritos Crash Course 2, download it now.
