Pax East 2013: Final Day Wrap Up

Sorry everybody, but after spending a large amount of time on the road recently, updating you on schedule about my last day of Pax East was just not going to happen. Does that mean that it was any less enjoyable because of this though? Absolutely not. In fact, I had a much more enjoyable experience on this day, probably because i had a chance to check out just about everything I was hoping to from the day before. Let’s take some time now to go over the highlights, shall we?

My final trip to the convention started with off with a trip to the Capcom booth, where I was hoping to get a chance to play Ducktales Remastered. After that idea fell through, a chance to play Lost Planet 3 opened up, and for the most part, it felt the same as every other game in the series, enjoyable, exciting, but entirely lacking any sort of originality whatsoever. As soon as the demo concluded, it was time to move on to something else. Maybe back to some indie games, perhaps?

The rest of my journey was a scrambled mess, but mostly consisted of checking out one independently developed game after another. Electronic Super Joy was up first, and was an insane platformer that felt like playing Mario Bros. inside of a nightclub, can’t explain it much better than that. Once my eyes stopped blinking, I decided to check out Toki Tori 2, which was a simple, yet fun, puzzle platformer that utilized the gamepad in some unique and unusual ways (camera, maps, etc.). Another major highlight was playing a quirky beat em called Guacamelee with another attendee, and we finished the demo in one shot.

Nothing else about my day though could compare to the moment where I finally had the chance to check out Ducktales Remastered. Everything about my experience with this one can be summed up in one word, awesomeness. The gameplay was extremely challenging and enjoyable, the environments were beautiful, and hearing each of the original voice actors reprise their roles from the show was a nice trip down memory lane. All in all, this, without a doubt, was the highlight of the show for me.

Sadly though, this is where my journey came to an end. It was still a blast to check out, and I can’t wait to go to it again next year. Be on the lookout for more updates from Pax East 2013 right here at
