Welcome to another installment of Monday Savings For The Everyday Gamer. If you are unsure about what’s going on here, please refer to previous articles for more information.Today we are going to set our sights on the Iphone, and take a look at a very unusual, exciting, and surprisingly affordable platformer that deserves just as much credit as any top rated game currently available on each of the big name platforms. Let’s move on to find out exactly what I’m talking about, shall we?
The eighth title in our collection is a $2.99 title for the Iphone that goes by the name of Cling!. You take control of a strange little creature in a world that looks like a pegboard, and your objective is to get him to the end of a stage as quickly as possible without dying. As if this wasn’t already enough to deal with, a number of different environmental obstacles such as electrocuting blocks, gravity shifting switches, and magnetic swinging objects will try to impede your progress along the way as well. Sounds pretty straightforward right? Well, the basic idea is for the most part, but the amount of challenge that the later levels bring will definitely keep even the most experienced gamers on their a game at all times.
Let’s get the bad stuff out of the way first. My only real problem here was the fact that while the controls were responsive for the most part, there were a few moments here and there where they glitched out me and made levels that much more difficult to complete. If I had to pick another issue, it would have to be the framerate slowdown that occurred in some areas, it didn’t really ruin my experience though, just delayed some inevitable deaths, but that’s about it. Aside from these issues though, the game was still a whole lot of fun to play.
Now let’s take a moment to end this segment on a good note. First of all, for a mobile title, there are plenty of features to keep people coming back for multpile playthroughs such as achievements, an in-game store, leaderboards, sharing scores on twitter or facebook, and so on. As for the controls, they are pretty easy to understand, especially since everything requires just a flick of the wrist for the most part. Gameplay wise, platforming with touch screen controls is very fun to do, and each stage adds in a new level of challenges to keep things from getting boring as well. The visual style is simple, yet full of life for the audience that it’s trying to cater to. Finally, for only a couple of dollars, people get an extremely enjoyable experience that most consoles offer for double the price, sounds like a winner to me, how about you?
