Just got the chance to check out the trial version of Serious Sam Double D XXL for XBLA, and it was pretty enjoyable for the most part. The trial version itself is around 151 MB or so, and is currently available for download on Xbox Live. So what did I think of it? Well, fans of incredibly simple, yet extremely enjoyable frantic shooters will find plenty to enjoy here, because there is enough chaotic fun taking place here to satisfy anybodies destructive appetite for hours on end, and then some. Let’s take a moment to go over the highs and low of my experience with this one, shall we?
The Good: Wide variety of weapons to use, amusing dialogue is fun to listen to, controls are not extremely complicated at all, gameplay is fast paced and exciting, there are plenty of different modes to choose from, and the overall visual style is simplistic, yet full of life at the exact same time.
The Bad: Jumping mechanics can be a bit floaty at times, frame rate issues occur every once in a while when a large amount of enemies are onscreen, and that’s about it.
Final Demo Verdict: Despite a couple of technical issues, Serious Sam Double D XXL still has the potential to be a very fun experience. Those of you who can overlook this stuff should download it now, enough said.
