It’s time once again for another installment of our movie based series entitled Cinematic Adventures. For those of you who are unfamiliar with what’s going on here, please refer to previous articles for more information. Today we are going to continue my four part series of movies based on the TMNT. Let’s take a look at the sequel that changed how hollywood portrayed our favorite heroes from the sewers to this very day, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of The Ooze.
Some time has passed since the shredder has been defeated, and now the turtles are living with their friend April o’ Neil in search of a new home. After encountering a break in at a local mall, a pizza delivery boy ends up realizing he got more than he bargained for, and out of nowhere the turtles show up to his rescue. On the other side of town, the foot has regrouped to a junkyard, where they find out that their master is not dead, and who is now seeking revenge for the people (or creatures in this case) who left him to perish in this wasteland so long ago. This is only one part of the story however, because some new information has been revealed relating to how the turtles were created, and as curious as they will ever be, our friends decide to find out more about themselves, even if the results are not as easy to deal with as they imagined the to be in the first place.
Apparently an accident relating to exposure to a number of different chemicals created this ooze, and when one of the canisters fell down a sewer 15 years ago, the turtles were exposed to it and that’s how how they came to be the very creatures they are today. Now aware that the chemical is available to use for his own scientific experiments, the shredder decides to steal it from the lab and use it on his own creations to rid himself of the turtles once and for all. Despite learning they were an accident, the sewer dwellers must defend their city from being destroyed. In the end the lesson learned is being who you are is what matters, not where you came from.
Now let’s take a moment to go over the high and low points of the film. First things first, the level of violence is toned down here from the first movie, making the fight scenes more comical in nature. Is this a bad thing though? No, it gives the creators the chance to come up with a number of different fun, albeit unique ideas that can entertain fans, and keep parents minds at ease at the same time. The story about the turtles origins isn’t bad either, and finding out about more about their history was a nice thing to see. Overall, the second silver screen adaptation of the heroes in the half shell was an enjoyable experience that still makes me smile to this very day.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze is a lighthearted take on the series that many people can enjoy. Anybody looking to have a good time should check this one out as soon as possible.
That concludes my thoughts on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze. If there are any other movies you would like to talk about, please let us know about them in the comments below.
