Just checked out the trial version of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD for XBLA today, and all I can say is I’m very disappointed. The trial version is around 460 MB or so, and is currently available for download on Xbox Live. So how was it? Well, there’s not really much to talk about because what these developers offered as a preview was pretty much over with before it even got started. Let’s take some time now and go over the highlights, and believe me, this won’t take very long.
The Good: Controls are solid, background music brings back fond memories, there are plenty of collectibles, and watching my skater fall down and hurt himself is still just as entertaining and spine tingling to watch as it was back in the day.
The Bad: Only one level to play, animations are a little bit on the rigid side, and trying to grind on a rail was difficult to accomplish as well.
The Ugly: The demo has a very short time limit (around 2:00 min or so), and actually runs out a half a minute before it’s supposed to.
Final Demo Verdict: This is a tough choice because even though I may pick the game up for my own nostalgic reasons, what’s on offer here doesn’t justify anybody spending $15 (1200 MSP) at all. If you are fan of the series it will probably be worth downloading, but anybody curious about checking the demo out will probably consider not buying the full experience. My own personal feelings aside, the trial does not do this remake justice, so I’m going to have to say no for now.
