Namco has really proved that old classics can still be enjoyed by todays gamers. They aimed to do this with their Namco Generation titles, a re-imagining of classic Namco games for a new era of gamers. With Pac Man Championship Edition DX such a huge success, it was only a matter of time before the studio went back to work to bring us another classic re-imagining. At the end of the day we have to ask ourselves, does Galaga Legions DX take a classic game and make us fall in love with it all over again, or is it a direct slap in the face to the original Galaga?

Gameplay: For anyone who has ever played the original Galaga, prepare to be re-introduced to it’s younger brother, Galaga Legions DX. While the same basic mechanics are same still here, there has been some huge upgrades that keep this game fresh and entertaining. The first major upgrade that you will notice is how the game plays. The speed of your ship and enemy bugs has been increased, greatly. Another cool addition to the gameplay are the explosive bugs. These bugs are usually in front of a chain bugs, and once you shoot them, the whole chain of bugs explodes. This is an awesome and effective way of getting rid of those unwanted critters in a few seconds. They have also implemented free roaming on the map. This allows you to fly your ship everywhere and anywhere on the map.

Graphics: Galaga Legions DX takes the classic Galaga game and completely gives it a facelift. Your spaceship along with the enemy insects have all been rendered very nicely and with gorgeous colors also. If thats not enough, there are five more color/graphic schemes that you can choose from, giving you a visually different gameplay experience. I have to admit, although Namco used the same color/graphic style for Pac Man Championship Edition DX, they really did a great job incorporating it into Galaga Legions DX.

Sound: The music and sounds that you will experience in Galaga Legions are simply amazing. Before playing this game I had huge expectations for it, mainly because of the experience that I was spoiled with from Pac Man Championship Edition DX. Namco has captured some awesome musical tracks for you to blast your enemies into Holy Hell. Pair the insanely fast gameplay and incredible music, and you get an experience unlike most games in the genre.

Wishes or Changes: It’s hard to say what I would want to change or wish for in this game. Everything you want in this type of game is here. Although it does not have any mulitplayer capabilities, this is not something that I would even want in this game.

TQ Bottom Line: If you are a fan of the original Galaga, or even a newcomer, I can’t recommend Galaga Legions DX enough. Since this game is based on getting high scores, there is a ton of replay value. The online leaderboards are also a nice addition that will keep you working on your highest score, just to prove that you have what it takes to be one of the best at Galaga Legions DX. At $9.99, this game is hard not buy!

Final Score: 5 out of 5 Michelas!
