Don Juan DeMarco
Theatrical Release: 1995
Starring: Johnny Depp, Marlon Brando and Faye Dunaway
I am back again this week with another pick of the week and I decided to go with one of Desz’s man crush actors, Jonny Depp, in the comedy of Don Juan DeMarco.
Twenty one year old John Arnold DeMarco believes to be the Legendary “Don Juan” the greatest lover in the world, dressing almost like Zorro, seducing women and attempting suicide because he fell in love with the most beautiful girl and was later rejected only to be convinced by Physiatrist Jack Mickler that he should be able to fight for her love. Don Juan is later sent to a mental institution and held for 10 days for a formal evaluation to determined if he is delusional and if he should be committed to the loony bin, Dr. Mickler is going to retire soon but not before he tries to help Don Juan and convince him once more that he is not who he thinks he is. The situation gets worst when all the female staff starts to fall in love with the young Don Juan and begins to have a major influence on Dr. Mickler’s relationship with his wife. While Don Juan is trying to explain his past and how he came to be the way he is now, Dr. Mickler listening to the young man’s story is slowly being inspired and he tries to rekindle the passion that has been lost years ago with his wife.
Jonny Depp is great in the movie, he is funny, he has a fantastic Spanish accent but the most appealing side of Don Juan DeMarco is that if you don’t know how to please a woman, Jonny Depp will tell you how to do so with the least amount of effort.
Most memorable quote “ There are only four questions of value in life: What is sacred? Of what is the spirit made? What is worth living for ? And what is worth dying for? The answer to each is the same! Only Love !”
