There is no denying that Rockstar puts out some quality games, sure their marketing is probably the best in the video game business, but they definitely back up the marketing hype with Game of the Year quality experiences. Last year, Rockstar easily took Game of the Year across many big gaming sites and of course at the Spike VGAs with their Western video game “Red Dead Redemption“. This year, looks to once again be a huge year for Rockstar with none other than L.A. Noire. But, can a Rockstar game really compete against heavy weights such as Mass Effect 3, Uncharted 3 or Gears of War 3 on the same year?
It’s refreshing to see Rockstar leaving the Gran Theft Auto box and applying their greatness to other open world scenarios – Not saying we don’t want to see another Gran Theft Auto Game soon, which in fact may be in Rockstars plans for 2012 to possibly take a Game of the Year Trifecta, but it’s almost as if they knew when to detach from GTA and introduce GTA in a different form. By now if you haven’t checked out some of the amazing trailers of L.A. Noire due out this May, you are in for a nice treat – that is if you are into 25-30 hours of gameplay, action, amazing graphics, story and suspense in a 1940’s setting.
It’s mind bogging just thinking of what this year’s VGAs will be like, especially with the amount of hot games releasing this year. Sure, Uncharted 3, Gears of War 3 and Mass Effect 3 are just a few of the competitors, but with their reputation, it’s only right to put them on the GOTY list right now. And while, L.A. Noire may be a new title, the game feels right and of course let’s not forget what Rockstar did with Red Dead Redemption, and should I even Mention the GTA series? Let’s face it, Rockstar can’t deliver bad games and the Rockstar name alone will surely put L.A. Noire on that 2011 GOTY list. From here, it seems like a 3 year Plan of domination for Rockstar; Red Dead Redemption, L.A. Noire and how about GTA5 announced at E3 with a 2012 release. L.A. Noire can’t be bad at all.
