God of War 3 vs. Mass Effect 2 is the Uncharted 2 vs. MW2 of 2010. Last year, many gamers believed Infinity Ward would take all of the “Game of the Year” awards with its multiplatform FPS Modern Warfare 2. Instead, Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 2 put all the MW2 vs. U2 talk to rest– by sweeping the GOTY awards, and still receiving more awards in 2010. This year with Mass Effect 2 already getting a huge buzz for GOTY and God of War 3 being just weeks away from what could be Sony’s biggest release yet — the excitement feels much like it did when Uncharted 2 was weeks away from store shelves.
Although other games should be consider for Game of the Year; such as Heavy Rain, Alan Wake, FF13, GT5, Halo Reach, Deadly Premonition (Maybe not Deadly Premonition); there is no doubt that Mass Effect 2 and God of War 3 are the real contenders. After all the great reviews Mass Effect 2 has already been given, and all the incredible game play footage that has been released for God of War 3 — 2010 will be bigger than ever, regardless of who takes GOTY. If only 2 games were released in 2010, Mass Effect 2 and God of War 3 would be the games to make 2010 one of the best years in gaming period.

With Mass Effect 2 you have a sophisticated space-opera with an elaborate story and Universe and absolutely fantastic characters.
With God of War III you have something that looks nice, but is essentially a pointless big-budget action affair with no sense of characterisation or narrative. If “RAWR I AM TEH KRATOS I KILL EVERYTHING” is your idea of Game of the Year, I honestly can’t help but laugh.
Yes because I would much rather play a game with a rehashed plot of the first game with second rate combat and loads of glitches. I can’t count the number of times my character randomly glitched up on a box and I was forced to reset. I have had no problems with God of War 3 thus far, the story is nice as it is a continuation and not a rehash. I have run into no glitches yet, and the action is fast and fun. In short, story continuation and no glitches is better then rehashed story and glitches.
Mass Effect 2 happens to be a decent continuation actually. God of War 3? Falls off Mt. Olympus, has to climb it again, has to escape the underworld… again…. has to collect weapons needed to kill gods…… again…… has to kill numerous gods……… again……… where the innovation at, eh? Same story, different graphics…
And do say there’s no innovation in Mass Effect 2 as well, I like hearing unfounded ideas…
Love both games though, they rock. As for Comparisons in Concept, Graphics, Game play, Sound, replayability, etc…

Game Play is a close tie, with both having solid controls for 3rd person shooting and hack n slash games, but mass effect having a more varied style,
Sound is a tie, what with ME2 having MUCH better voice acting, but GOW3 having a good soundtrack,
and ME2 Gets replayability… hands down…
My personal opinion… ME2 wins out… guaruntee people will still be playing this much more when people get tired of GOW3.

All Mass Effect is, is essentially a Fantasy genre game based in Space, thats why they call it Space Fantasy. See you have Fiction then you have Science Fiction, yet your trying to act like it’s something totally new. Mass Effect has no more story than God of War does, instead of bashing things you shoot things.
Not to mention the story in GOW3 is actually more epic and impressive. The technical wizardry is beyond the means of the Xbox360 and always will be, the Xbox360 has been out longer yet has games and graphics below that of PS3, you guys want to pretend the two systems are equal, and thats why you are so butt hurt.
You won’t ever understand the huge gap between Xbox360 and PS3, until you play games like Uncharted 2, GOW3. You’ll continue to pretend some of your games deserve awards, (even though they are technically multiplatform: PC) you’ll cling to the fact that it’s not on PS3 and you think that’s what matters.
Well I tell you I play both PC and PS3, and omg some of the ports from Xbox360 look like shit even on the PC with MAXED out settings. This is wrong, it should never be like this, and I believe Xbox360 is holding up the ENTIRE industry from progressing.
The only award both Xbox360 and it’s games should get is a RETRO award for being and using old technology.

Now what people have to remember is Mass Effect 2 has very good Graphics, but when played on a SD TV the TEXT is very small, and is very hard to read. IE, it spoils the story as you can’t read whats going on. Now the company that made the game have said ” they will NOT fix this SMALL issue “. Now to be honest, that little issue could help lose GOTY.
GOW III = God Of War NOT Gears Of War as God Of War series was released way before the Gears Of War series.
So GOW III can only be done on the PS3, ( Both Devs and Sony have said this ) and CANNOT be onthe 360 due to it’s console limitations. Now they ( Devs or Sony ) haven’t really said what limitations have stopped them from placing it on the 360. IN MY OPINION it could be due to, Slower RAM, Limited Disc Space.
Now i have played and finished Mass Effect 2 on my PC as the PC gave me the better looking game and experience than what the 360 could have ever given to me. Now yes it was a good game, one of the best games out on the 360, Yet better on the PC.
Now i have played the Demo of GOW III, and it knocks the crap out of Mass Effect 2, The scale of GOW III is MASSIVE, with graphics MUCH better than Killzone 2, Uncharted 2, let alone Mass Effect 2. My God theres even sweat dripping off him while your fighting shit loads of enemies, and when you not fighting them he cools down so the sweat stops. Playing GOW III Demo that isn’t even the finished game shows the best graphics i have seen to date, and i have been gaming for over 20 years.

Killzone 3, might be getting released this year, so if that does get released, GOTY will be between Killzone 3, Halo Reach, Mass Effect 2 , God Of War III, and another game coming to the PS3 that i cannot talk about .;o)

I don’t yet have an Xbox, and I love my PS3. I did, however, make the excellent choice of getting Mass Effect 2 for PS3, and as a result am pretty convinced that everyone who is saying that a game they have yet to play is better than the utter awesomeness of Mass Effect 2. I will remain reserved, but it will take a Metal Gear Solid to top ME2.

God of War 3 has a better chance of being voted Game of the Year. When you look/play Mass Effect 1 and 2, there’s not much of a leap. As God of War 2 appeared on the PS2, the leap over to PS3 is massive. In all fairness, they’re entirely different games, but I’d say there’s a lot more action going on in God of War 3. I found the first Mass Effect to be very boring as most of the gameplay was just running about, talking to people, then making decisions. My money is on God of War 3 even though there’s going to be other games out there as the year goes on.

I don’t know. For me, Game of the Year should go to a game that changes the way we love at video games. It should go to a game that encompasses all of the great stuff we’ve come to love but then takes it to another level.
I can’t speak on Mass Effect. To me, I never found it interesting despite loving the crap out of KOTOR. But from what I can tell, it didn’t bring anything genre changing or raise the bar for gaming.
The only title to do that this year is Heavy Rain. Sales be damned. The trophies are innovative. The game is gorgeous. The characters are so engrossing that they make an antiquated storyline new and fresh.
It brought new people into gaming and it is a console seller. I know Mass Effect 2 has a following and I know GOW3 is going to be massive, but nothing so far has surpassed expectations like Heavy Rain.
If Heavy Rain doesn’t win GOTY on most sites, I think it will just reinforce the Haloism that plagues the Western Hemisphere.
God Of War III has just scored a better metric scoring than Mass Effect 2. In fact people reviewing it now are saying it’s the best game they have ever seen with graphics that are unmatched, ect. Theres more 10/10’s floating around out there on the net for the GoW III than ANY other game this year so far.
Mass Effect 2 has no chance to win GOTY while this is about. It would be a runner up, but it won’t beat ( GoW III ).

if you want to compare metric scores, use a site that takes all the legitimate reviews from all the mainstream medias… hand picked ones…
theres so much irony in the comments made by wankers. im not a 360 owner, i own a ps3, but i really want to play both ME2 and GOW3 in my opinion they are both strong runner ups for the GOTY.

This shows that more will come out of GoW III, and due to the scoring, i would say this game will win GOTY. If not Halo Reach could.
Their should be a game of the year category for NON-SEQUELS.
Anyone out there listening… i have both 360 and ps3 and i would have 2 go with mass effect… compeling story(obviously not as good as mass effect 1s) u can upload your character from mass effect 1 into 2 so all the people youve met, kept alive and yes even had sex with, will reflect into number 2, graphics are pretty good textures are better than gow3, and 25 hour long story and once you beat mass 2 you can upload your skills into starting a new character, free roam the galaxy, lots of different alien races, and the codex that gives u history on all the technology and races and planets, and upgrade your weapons and ship, get pets, and updrade armour and give it your own color and toggle a helmet or not, mass effect has so much more 2 offer than gow3 and it also has a really good soundtrack. but if anything mass effect 1 is better, mass effect 3 comes 2011 with multiplayer…. and im not a fanboy just that everyone knows all the sit with gow3, i was dissapointed with what it had to offer but mass effect or alan wake deserve goty. ALAN WAKE is amazing, o yeah there was some fucking idiot fanboy at the top who said mass effect was an FPS, its a third person \sci \fi RPG idiot.
