PS3 Slim Will Be $299.99

July 6th, 2009 | By Desz

New PS3 bundles are starting to hit the shelves, like the Wall-e/Little Big Planet bundle that recently started selling at Best Buy, and now a Killzone 2/MGS4 bundle that is rumored to hit the shelves soon. But is Sony trying to get rid of the 80GB sku before it releases PS3′s next best thing? Are the current bundles worth the buy? The PS3 Slim is pretty much the real deal, and there has to be great belief that it has to come out at a lower price to attract consumers. So, let’s do the math 80GB PS3 =$399.99- $60(Killzone 2) – $30 (MGS4) the same can be subtracted by using the Wall-e/LBP bundle, and the new total is around $310, which leads to a very accurate price for the PS3 Slim. Say hello to the $299.99 PS3 Slim.

As far as the new 80GB bundles go, a good buy with a good movie, and great games, but quite honestly, Sony might be too late introducing these bundles. What a leak does to your sales. PS3 Slim, come to papa.

    $299.99 for the PS3 Slim is exactly what I have been telling my friends it most likely was going to sell for. Then again, I always made the disclaimer about Sony’s PSP Go price being ridiculous even with the slim design. If it is indeed $299.99, then I know many people that are ready to jump on the PS3 bandwagon.

    I hope it’s around the $299 mark because I really want to go out and get a PS3. $299 would be a price I’d be willing to pay for a PS3 Slim, I’m so excited!!

    Remember a couple weeks ago, when Ars Technica’s trusty, eerily accurate “mole” prophesied that the 80GB PS3 would be ushered off store shelves in order to be replaced by the 160GB model, ultimately leading to the introduction of the oft-rumored PS3 slim? We won’t know for sure until the bundle hits store shelves, but it certainly looks like the ol’ “mole” might have another notch in his accurate-prediction-belt.

    Except your math is bad. It doesn’t cost Sony $60 to include KZ2. It only adds a couple bucks to the price of the SKU, but the buyer thinks “Oooh! $60 of value!”

  5. JUiCE says:

    If this is true, the PSP GO sales will suffer, BIG time.

    PSP Go – $249.99
    Rumored PS3 Slim – $299.99

    ummm, yeah, let me get the PS3 Slim!

    Guys you forget, Sony has denied the claims of the PS3 slim…. Now E3 would of been the best place to put MS, and Nintendo on the mark by announcing something like this… I predict the PS3 slim might arrive next year some after E3

    Just seems unethical to deny something so big, when they know the hype will blow everyone away

    @henning

    i agree with you on hat one Killzone 2 probably costs sony like 10 buck to produce and throw in the box but like you said people say look i am get 90 bucks worth of games with Killzone and MGS but that is not what it costs them to put it in the box

    @Wolfy

    Think about what would happen to current PS3 sales if Sony showed the cheaper priced PS3 slim at E3, but also said it wouldn’t go on sales until the Fall.

  9. Desz says:

    @B agreed, Sony would of only dug a bigger hole, by announcing it at E3. Makes perfect sense now. At the same time @henning you do make sense with the costing only several bucks to throw in those games or movies, and I just hope that its not a $349.99 price, $299.99 would be the price that will get Sony back on top. And yes @Juice the PSP Go might be PSP No.

    I’m feeling this.

    They could really get the momentum rolling with this major price drop and make people buy all the upcoming sports titles on the PS3. Then you hit em with a little Uncharted 2 in the fall and watch the Xmas bucks roll in.

    Nice Desz.
